Here are a few pictures I snapped of an old wasp's nest just east of the city last fall. This was about the size of an average pumpkin and when I first approached it, I was apprehensive because I wasn't certain that it wasn't still active. After a few minutes of waiting to see if anything emerged, which it didn't, I took my chances.
As amazing as it looked, just with very idea that insects worked together to build such an elaborate contraption, the look of it is somewhat creepy. It is as though the nest itself was still dangerous in some way. I snapped a couple of photos and hopefully the nest is visible in the shots.
