A House in the Alley?

Here is a picture of a quirky little house around 118 avenue near the Commonwealth Stadium that has seen more changes to the area in it's entire life than most homes in the same neighbourhood. This one uses the alley behind some commercial businesses lining 118 avenue as it's front street. It's just a tiny little house with a garage and the front of the house faces the backs of the commercial buildings. The house has address numbers on it and I would be curious to know how they receive their mail? Is it possible for an alleyway to have a street name or number allocation or would it just assume the street that runs parallel to it on the closest side? In this case, that would be the street to the left of it.

I conclude that at some point, the lane way was the avenue (or street) for this house until the area was re-planned to accommodate the business sector along 118 avenue. The house still looks occupied so I would assume the current owners have possibly been in the house it's entire life. I would also assume that if the house had exchanged hands in recent years that it would have possibly been torn down and the lot most likely absorbed by the one directly to the left of it. But since I am not a city planner, I am only guessing that this would be true.

Regardless, it's quite apparent that this house has been around for a VERY long time and that the city planners were forced to work around it. It almost looks like something you would see at Fort Edmonton Park.
